In 1999,  when Gotland hosted the Island Games,  the Gotland men’s team managed to win the team gold among other tennis medals. In Åland 2009,  Karolina Söör won the individual gold medal in the women’s singles for Gotland. Through the IG history,  Gotland has won multiple medals in tennis.
Visby TK (the main club on the island) celebrates its 100 year anniversary this year. Tennis is once again a growing sport with many promising juniors looking forward to the Natwest Island Games on home turf.
Every summer,  Gotland organises the traditional tennis week, the Gutaspelen tournament. Even former world top 10 players have participated in that tournament. Gutaspelen used to be included in the Swedish summer tour as well. Last year, Gutaspelen and Cementa Open attracted more then 250 players in different classes – from junior to open classes.
In 2017, the tennis event is planned to be hosted in Visby (in conjunction to Rackethallen, Botairlunden, where even the badminton event will take place) and Slite on clay courts right on the sea front.  Team and individual events in singles, doubles, and mixed will be played – both for men and women.
Welcome to Gotland!
